As we take a break from some of the regular rhythms of church during the summer, the Global Coffee Break’s Discover Your Bible studies from Resonate Global Mission are tools you can use to help be intentional and present in your community.
“People want to have a space to talk about things and ask questions. I think as a church body, if we’re intentional about giving people a real space to do that in person, Discover Your Bible is a great tool to help people wrestle with questions while they’re holding onto truth,” said Janis Persenaire, a Resonate Local Mission Leader in the Great Lakes Region who trains and supports Global Coffee Break leaders.
Persenaire has led Bible studies using Discover Your Bible in her neighborhood and church and has been encouraged by how she sees God at work. At Christmas, she asked a neighbor and some friends if they were interested in studying the Christmas story. They met at the church building where Janis is a member—and a woman who had never studied the Bible or been to church showed up.
Persenaire’ neighbor had invited the woman. And while the woman only came for one of the four weeks of the study at Christmas, she actively took part in a study around Easter this year. She’s been excited to dig into the Bible and see how it applies to her life.
Persenaire said that Discover Your Bible studies stand apart from many other studies.
“We often read words in the text and stop asking questions. These studies are really written in a way that encourages more questions and conversation around God’s Word,” said Persenaire.
There are also guides for each study to help equip leaders of small groups to ask questions and facilitate conversation.
Discover Your Bible studies are available in eleven languages, range in length from one to twelve weeks, and cover a variety of topics and books of the Bible. They have been hosted in diverse spaces, including apartment complexes, retirement homes, church buildings, homes, backyards, and more.
“I usually encourage people to pick the topic or book of the Bible that’s on their heart and open God’s Word together,” said Persenaire.
