Churches realize that worship spaces and practices are not always accessible to people with disabilities and have been reaching out to Thrive for help.
In October 2024, we hosted a series of roundtable conversations with the goal of learning together, sharing resources, and brainstorming helpful and sustainable practices. Below is a summary of the conversations as well as video recordings of each of these conversations. As always, Thrive's consultants are here for any questions or follow-up conversations about these topics. Email us at [email protected]
Accessibility in Spaces: Disability consultant, Lindsay Wieland Capel, invites us to think through accessible worship spaces. Think beyond legal compliance to include things like offering sensory-rooms and alternate worship spaces. For the recording, click here.
Accessibility in Children's Ministry: Dwell children's ministry curriculum developer, Jill Benson, invites us to think about how to welcome children of all abilities in our children's ministry spaces. For notes and a recording, click here.
Accessibility in Worship: Worship consultant, Katie Roelofs, invites us to think through how our worship practices can be more accessible and inclusive for all. This includes things like screen projection, worship without words, and how to reimagine passing the peace to be more hospitable. For the recording, click here.

Is there a possibility that these sessions will be recorded? I've got a number of people who would love to participate but unfortunately they are being held during working hours for them.
Thanks for considering!
Yes! If you register for the event, we will send you the recording afterwards. We understand that the time won't work for everyone, but want to make the information accessible to anyone who is interested.
