Thank you for your post. I am afraid I don't have a clear understanding of what you mean by "doctrinal purity." What does it look like? How do we know whether it is present or it is absent? Perhaps you could give two or three instances where doctrinal purity is at issue?
Paul is helpful in thinking about doctrinal unity, but I also think we should consider the teachings of Jesus to give us some wisdom about doctrinal unity.
Just for the record: two years ago the Presbyterian Church of Canada voted to allow two interpretations of marriage, and so far there has been no split. Some families have left and some families have joined.
