When Joshua had finished leading the people across the Jordan River, he did as the Lord commanded. Joshua 4: 4-7: “So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”” It is Passion Week and on Wed., we are in the shadows with Jesus on a day of rest and reflection in Bethany while Judas Iscariot slips away to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. To keep me from betraying my Saviour, I like to reflect this week on my memory stones that God has given me to remind me how I am now in “the forever promised land”. Like then, these stones show the Lord’s presence, power, and provision for his child. 1. I thank the Lord for Godly parents. 2. I love the Scriptures: many passages like Romans 5 and 8 bless my soul. 3. I thank the Lord for grand old Hymns of the Faith that nourish my life. 4. We are blessed by strong Biblical preaching to challenge us to search the Scriptures. 5. Reflecting on the Lord’s Supper, I am reminded of the great price paid for my sin. 6. I am challenged by the importance of obedience in Baptism (Profession of Faith). 7. I am thankful for the Hope CRC community of faith. 8. I delight in prayer as we see changed lives. 9. I am prompted by the Holy Spirit to serve others. 10. I am humbled by the centrality of the EMPTY cross (Jesus paid it all - grace alone). 11. The assurance of the EMPTY tomb gives Resurrection hope. 12. I find joy in giving with the comfort of trusting God for my needs: (Proverbs 30: 7-9).
