I think the degree to which the author was triggered by the song calling out the gap between how many celebrate the birth of Christ and His actual mandate that we care for the poor proves JB’s point as well as the song. Perhaps Christ didn’t eradicate poverty to give the “rich man” the chance to earn his way to Heaven? Would a conformist say, “you have heard of an eye for an eye. I tell you forgive your enemies, and love your neighbor.” Would a conformist have stormed the temple? Would a conformist have been crucified by the establishment? I applaud the author for responding to these comments, but what’s the point of asking if Satan was a conformist? How does that relate to the observations, not attempt at theology, of Jackson Browne? Jackson once explained that he wanted to join the Chieftans in a Christmas album, but he couldn’t find a traditional carol with a message he wanted to convey, so he wrote this himself. If you google the song, you will find other Christian authors who totally get Jackson’s message.
