Born in the Netherlands and raised in the US. Married into the Van Dellen clan (Nita).
Worked in various capacities in the Philippines, Jordan, Guam, Saudi Arabia, and India. Helped develop a refugee resettlement organization and continue volunteering in this arena. Am presently engaged in giving instruction in Business Ethics and English Composition at a local university; and regular preaching at a local congregation.

I've found the distinction between management and leadership to be useful: management as working with the hands and leadership as leading or helping to reach a destination. My worry is that we have lost the vision of what it means to be a church and because their is no vision, pastors are not leading. Or, perhaps we have not allowed ourselves to be tethered to Christ who would lead us, if we would.
