Are you between the ages of 18 and 30?

Do you have a passion for justice and advocacy work?

Do you want to see real change in your community?

Are you interested in conversations around disability advocacy?

If you are nodding “yes” to these, then submit your application now to join the Disability Advocacy Journey!

(Are you no longer 18 to 30, but immediately someone came to mind who would be a good fit? Let us know about them! We’ll explain how you can nominate someone for this journey.)

In an exciting collaboration, CRC and RCA Disability Concerns and RCA Next Generation Engagement have developed a program for advocacy that will train young adults to turn their passion into action. Our focus will be specifically on disability advocacy.

Where this journey will take place:

Young adults from west Michigan, northwest Iowa, and the central and capital regions of New York can apply to join a cohort in their specific region. Additionally, anyone can nominate a young adult from these regions who would be a good fit for the journey, and our team will reach out directly to the nominee.

What to expect from the journey:

  • You will learn from dynamic, experienced activists like Cyndi Jones about historical ramifications of the disability rights movement for people with disabilities today.

  • You will meet local activists who have been championing accessibility and inclusion in their regions to make improvements.

  • You will learn about the necessary resources to get involved in advocacy.

  • You will hear how others got things moving in their areas of expertise.

  • You will work with other young adults and a professional coach to help you achieve your goals to further the work of advocacy among people with disabilities in your community.

  • You will discover exactly how you can put your passionate heart into action.

Length of the journey:

The journey will begin in October 2021 and continue through April 2022.

During this time, you can expect:

  • Monthly check-ins (two hours total) with advocacy coaches

  • Large-group sessions (online) in October, November, and April, with possible option of connecting face-to-face with people in your region

  • Support to develop an advocacy initiative in your own community
