Celebrating Open Doors for Women to Serve

As part of this year’s joint CRC and RCA Synods in a Friday evening celebration service, we presented the video, A Story Yet Being Told, God’s Faithfulness and Our Greatest Joy. This endeavor would not have happened without the help of Ministry Support Services, Calvin College's Heritage Hall and many others who shared bits of historical data or gave testimonies of their greatest joy in ministry.
With much prayer and the Lord’s help, we did it! It was an incredible and, even emotional, journey to recap the history of women obediently following the Holy Spirit’s lead in reaching the lost and growing the Church.
During my visits to Heritage Hall, as I looked at the photos of hundreds of women’s faces from various churches gathered at locations in the U.S. and Canada, I wondered about their individual and communal stories. I wondered about their fears, doubts, joys, and concerns. How did their ministries affect their marriages, families, and churches? What did they think about the future of women in the CRC? These are questions and stories I may not ever know.
What I've grown to know and understand is that God’s work is never in vain. These women and also some men paved the way for women in the CRC today. We are grateful for their service; we stand on their shoulders today. We are not alone; never alone. We stand among a great cloud of witnesses to God’s faithfulness in all situations!
We offer to you this video and a booklet highlighting women in ministry to share and celebrate the history of women in our denomination. Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds ... all for HIS GLORY!
On my last visit, as I walked through the open doors of Heritage Hall, I was reminded of God’s grace; He continues to open doors for women to serve!
