In a world that often feels more like shifting sand than solid rock, the question “What is your only comfort in life and in death?” resonates deeply. If you’d like to explore it with youth and adults in your church, check out The Big Question.

This new four-session exploration of Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 1 from Faith Formation Ministries is receiving enthusiastic reviews from leaders and students alike.

Curtis Meliefste, youth pastor at Willoughby Church in Langley, British Columbia, appreciated the study’s built-in flexibility: “Every youth group is structured differently and I really appreciated the various options that range from low prep/intensity to higher. There were always a few that fit with my students and our format for youth group.”

Each session includes an opening activity, several catechism exploration/activity options, time for sharing faith stories, and a take-home sheet with thought/discussion questions, Scripture passages, and a spiritual practice to guide individual devotional times.

The Big Question is designed for youth groups, small groups, and intergenerational groups. It’s informal, simple to lead, and the course materials cost just $10 per group. You can purchase it from Faith Alive or view a sample session here.
