Imagine this: a Sunday morning gathering in which people form intergenerational relationships as all ages eat breakfast together and participate in a time of Bible study, worship, and recreation.
Intrigued? Me too.
The Sunday morning concept is new, but GenOn Ministries (the organization that’s piloting the program) has been engaged in “equipping Christian communities for discipleship through intergenerational relationships” with its flagship LOGOS midweek ministry program for over 50 years.
Sunday LIFT (Living in Faith Together) is their new intergenerational relationship-building curriculum for Sunday mornings. It is designed to be used in place of, or in addition to, current programming. According to GenOn,
- LIFT eliminates the need for lots of Sunday school teachers by using one or two key leaders to prepare and guide sessions. Other adults can be involved in learning at the tables and in small groups.
- uses stand-alone sessions, rather than cumulative lessons. Participants don't feel the pressure to attend every Sunday.
- includes a yummy snack or meal, which helps busy families connect with church. By having breakfast at church, participants are excited to attend.
- includes people of all ages, allowing for more relationship building and the inclusion of all God's children.
- is affordable, downloadable, and flexible, which is helpful to churches dealing with increasing costs of curriculum.
- is designed for 60-minute gatherings, and includes options to expand to 90 minutes.
