Advent is almost here! During this busy holiday season celebrating Advent can help us focus our attention on the coming of Christ. Do you plan to do anything special with your class? Check out this Pinterest page of creative and crafty ideas for easy Advent wreaths, Jesse trees, and felted nativity scenes.

My favorite idea, from creationsbykara.com, is a single candle painted with marks for each day of Advent. It would be a simple and meaningful project for upper elementary and older. It comes with a set of scripture readings, each day the family burns the candle to the next marker as they read another story leading up to the coming of Christ! Younger children may enjoy beginning class by building portions of a simple nativity scene cut out of felt.

Advent is also a great opportunity to bring the whole congregation together to share a time together. If you are looking for a ways to make that happen, check out WE: Expectations. It brings everyone together around tables to create a Jesse tree for the sanctuary or fellowship hall. Each individual or household also takes home a pattern for making a Jesse tree with Scripture readings for each day of Advent!

Please share your Advent Sunday school (or home) ideas and traditions!
