A New Bible App for Kids

On Thanksgiving Day (USA), YouVersion launched a new Bible app for kids. It promises to be an animated adventure designed to help kids explore the big stories of the Bible and begin cultivating a love for Scripture at a young age. I enjoy reading books on my Kindle app, but when it comes to the Bible, I still prefer to hold the good book in my hands and turn the pages manually. I doubt my daughter will grow up with the same fondness for words on pages. She is not quite two and she’s already peeking over the shoulder of her older cousin to watch Pete The Cat on Grammy’s iPad. Why not watch Pete the disciple too?
The announcement of the Bible app for Kids made me pause to explore some of the features included in the YouVersion’s original Bible app. To my surprise there are a few cool features that might be useful for home or Sunday school, like a few GREAT video clips from the Lumo Project of stories from the Gospels. These clips are available online at the YouVersion website as well. As with all Scripture based videos they take some interpretive liberties but overall feel authentic and free are of second rate special effects. You’ll also find quality audio for many of the popular Bible translations. In a classroom context I could see kids acting out a pantomime or freeze frame of a scene or story as the App reads it for them.
Exploring the adult app made me excited for tomorrow’s debut of the new YouVersion children’s Bible app! Let’s check it out and compare notes on its possibilities for use at home and at Church.
A quick scan of the app store reveals dozens of other Bible game apps for kids. Have you found any of them worthwhile for use at home or church?

Here's an update--I've tried it, and I like it! Fresh, interactive art, and stories that are faithful to the text. There aren't very many Bible stories yet, but the app indicates that more are coming. What are your thoughts?
