Healthy Missional Leaders Will Change Your Church

“We live in a reactive culture where even the most well-intentioned people behave in less than healthy ways... Marriages, families, churches, businesses, communities and governments are all impacted by people’s lack of ability to work together in healthy and life-giving ways. As a result, most of the systems in our culture are impaired and many are disintegrating. Individuals and the world remain broken and disunified. …We believe that wholeness and workability are God’s intended design. We believe that God desires peace, unity, and soundness in individuals and in systems. We believe that when God’s kingdom invades the earth that wholeness is reclaimed in everyone and that workability is established for everyone.”

In the past few years, I have conducted a number of job interviews in which I noticed that I could tell within ten minutes if the candidate has participated in FaithWalking. How? These candidates are well differentiated, they handle conflict in healthy ways, they listen carefully, and they know themselves well. Overall, they display an emotional intelligence that sets them apart from other candidates.
What if we could say the same of every leader in our churches? How would that influence our ability to connect with our community? How could we be agents of reconciliation that bring about the restoration God intends for creation?
Pastor Jim Herrington in Houston, TX, and pastor/licensed counselor Trisha Taylor co-founded FaithWalking in 2007 as a spiritual formation ministry that equips people and congregations to live missionally. The Ridder Church Renewal process that many CRC and RCA congregations have engaged in also includes FaithWalking.
This fall, there is an exciting opportunity for any interested person to participate in the foundational FaithWalking workshop. Jim and Trisha will be leading this workshop for the last time, before handing it off to other leaders they have trained. Please consider attending on in Kalamazoo, MI on October 19-20. Details, including logistics and cost, will be available soon. When you let us know you are interested, we will pass those along to you!
