As children we are all raised to say “Please” and “Thank you”. We pray to God and ask him to “please bring me that red bicycle,” and we thank God for our food at every meal. It's easy to talk about the “Please” part of the equation when it comes to fundraising.
When was the last time you got a thank you note? Was it from a friend, a high school graduate, from an organization you support? How about your church?
Over the last few years we as an organization have been trying to lean into this more. We send out thousands of thank you notes every year- still it’s not enough. Some people may feel unrecognized for their contributions. We’ve begun sending churches a “Thank You” video every year- thanking churches like yours for your ministry shares pledges. It might still not be enough, but we’re trying. Similarly your church, your council and your pastor need to consider spending time saying “thank you” for the gifts that have been entrusted to you. One author suggests that a pastor should spend about 25 minutes of his time each week sending thank you notes.
I'd love to hear what you think about this in the comments below.
