But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
2 Corinthians 8:7

When someone gives money to a cause, what are the reasons you think someone gives? Here are some common ones:

  • Moral Duty
  • Taxes
  • The organization leadership
  • It feels good (altruism)
  • Trusting the organization
  • Belief in mission
  • Impact or the effect of their gift on the cause
  • There’s a matching gift
  • Egoism
  • They want to provide fiscal stability
  • Fear of missing out
  • It’s biblical to give

Research indicates that these are the  top 3 reasons people give:

  • A belief in the mission
  • A positive regard for the ministry’s leadership
  • Fiscal stability of the organization

How does that change the way you approach giving in your church? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
