To Steward or Subdue? Think Christian Explores Creation Care for Earth Day

Over the last few years, we’ve increased the variety and number of stories published on Think Christian, and we now have a nicely robust archive. Readers can easily search the site for articles interesting to them, but we also recognize an opportunity to assemble articles into series on specific topics, which we can then offer as PDF downloads.
That’s what we’ve done with To Steward or Subdue, a collection of TC posts on the cultural mandate, stewardship, and creation care. As Earth Day draws near, these articles explore what God’s command in Genesis 1:28 — to “fill the earth and subdue it” — means for us today, when climate engineering, air conditioning, and human composting are real topics open for discussion and debate.
Some of our best contributors tackle these topics, including University of Michigan environmental ethics professor Rolf Bouma, and popular TC columnists Branson Parler and Karen Swallow Prior. Parler, for example, drives right into the heart of the issue in his piece about turning urban blight in Detroit into urban forest: “The whole point of the original story of the Garden of Eden is that humans are called to accept limits. We are the image of God, but we are not God.”
To get To Steward or Subdue just subscribe to Think Christian. You'll get the latest articles right in your inbox. Visit thinkchristian.net/earthday to get the collection right now. God’s first commandment to humanity was to care of His creation. Earth Day is a great time to thoughtfully consider how, as Christians, we can do that.
