How Toxic Is Our Food?

The exponential growth of serious diseases such as cancer, dementia, and autism should make us think. What are we putting into our bodies? It turns out that deadly toxins are everywhere in our modern society, from oatmeal to shampoo to receipt (thermal) paper. We need to be aware.
Have you had a urine test for the potent herbicide glyphosate lately? It is very likely that you have glyphosate in your body. In 2015, a study by the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) found glyphosate in 93 percent of participants. It is the most widely used of all pesticides on earth, found in the Monsanto product Roundup. There are residues found in a vast number of daily food items in Canada and the US (www.anh-usa.org/glyphosate-breakfast-report). There is now new evidence that glyphosate is found in breast milk and vaccines given to babies (www.momsacrossamerica.com).
In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization, released a study of over 1,000 reports, concluding that glyphosate is a “probable human carcinogen.” (https://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/iarcnews/pdf/MonographVolume112.pdf). Their report only included scientific studies that were publicly available and peer-reviewed, excluding most industry studies. In November 2015, through the European Food Safety Authority, the industry was able to produce a study which reversed this finding. The inclusion of industry representatives in national regulatory agencies is extensive in many countries (www.independentsciencenews.org/science-media/the-goodman-affair-monsanto-targets-the-heart-of-science/).
Highly qualified scientists explain that glyphosate causes disease by “inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) … CYP enzymes play crucial roles in biology, one of which is to detoxify xenobiotics. Thus, glyphosate enhances the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and environmental toxins. Negative impact on the body is insidious and manifests slowly over time as inflammation damages cellular systems throughout the body. Here, we show how interference with CYP enzymes acts synergistically with disruption of the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by gut bacteria, as well as impairment in serum sulfate transport. Consequences (of this) are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. We explain the documented effects of glyphosate and its ability to induce disease, and we show that glyphosate is the “textbook example” of exogenous semiotic entropy: the disruption of homeostasis by environmental toxins.” (Glyphosate’s Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Diseases), Anthony Samsel 1 and Stephanie Seneff 2,* 18 April 2013. Urgent social justice actions to be taken to protect our health, our families and our neighbours’ health include:
Eat and grow organic foods.
Avoid using weed killers with highly toxic ingredients such as glyphosate.
Be informed. There is good information available from excellent sources.
Send messages to Government insisting that our food, vaccines and water supply be protected from glyphosate and other toxic chemicals. This is an urgent matter of social justice.
Talk to family, friends and neighbours about the need to take action to protect our health.
Encourage church authorities to take a courageous stand in favour of health over profits.
Pray that God will make shalom and health prevail against inhumane economic interests.

Thank you for your thoughtful message about glyphosate and health issues. I had severe health issues for several years that were alleviated by going gluten free, but many people question if gluten is the problem, or if the glyphosate routinely sprayed on wheat just before harvesting is as much of a culprit for ill health. Please note that "Big Agra" is a huge business. Congress just passed a law making it more difficult to know if foods are GMO or not, and if the TPP is passed, my understanding is that countries will not be able to put their citizens' interest ahead of the interests of the international corporations. My prayers are for truth and light to be manifested in this world, and my prayers mirror yours.
Thank you for your excellent comments. Yes, I have also heard that gluten issues may be more related to glyphosate residues, especially due to late spraying. I am shocked about how unhelpful governments are being in these matters, seeming to care little about public health while health costs are skyrocketing. The companies have managed to strongly influence government and the public and to label anyone who questions this situation a whacko and a freak. Please let me know if you have ideas about how to better educate our denomination and the general public about this huge public health risk. I look forward to hearing from you again. Thank you again for your supportive comments. May God bless you.
