"He is before all things and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17
So, apart from Jesus, the universe would collapse and return to nothing! By his power, he makes the earth continue to rotate around the sun. He is the "cement", the bond, the "glue", the Sustainer of the universe. Jesus should be recognized as the "uni" in every University. Sadly, many so-called universities refuse to recognize him as the unifying power that he is.
Yet, he makes himself known in mathematics as the one who is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. He makes himself known in language as the Word. He makes himself known in music as the basis of harmony, the enemy of chaos, the Creator of sound, the Giver of all that is good and beautiful.
Along with God, the Father, he is "the almighty and ever present power of God by which he upholds, as with his hand, heaven and earth and all creatures and so rules them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and lean years, food and drink, health and sickness, prosperity and poverty—all things, in fact, come to us not by chance but by his fatherly hand." (Heidelberg Catechism, 27)
Accordingly, "We can be patient when things go against us, thankful when things go well, and for the future we can have good confidence in our God and Father that nothing will separate us from his love. All creatures are so completely in his hand that without his will they can neither move nor be moved." (Heidelberg Catechism, 28.)
