We appreciate all of the ways that you support Safe Church Ministry in your congregation, raising awareness and promoting effective abuse prevention and response. Another way to support Safe Church is financially. Special for this year: When you give a donation to Safe Church, you will receive a Safe Church mask as a small gift of thanks!
Our plans for 2020 were swept away by the global pandemic that seemed to change everything. Yet, looking back, we see God’s presence, mercy and grace, which empowered us all through the challenges.
In January, Safe Church hosted a Zoom webinar for our Classis Safe Church Coordinators, designed to lead up to our fall conference. The positive response led us to plan additional webinars, which became our Safe Church 2020 Webinar Series. Several featured amazing guest presenters, including authors and well-known experts, Boz Tchividjian, Diane Langberg, Jay Stringer, Ruth Everhart, and others! The webinar recordings have become resources for churches and safe church teams, available on the new Safe Church YouTube channel.
Collaborative work continues on recommendations adopted by Synod 2019 regarding addressing abuse of power within the CRC. Highlights include development of a code of conduct and a training program, which is currently being piloted and will be required starting next year for all new CRC pastors.
The door has opened to virtual opportunities that haven’t been considered before, even as we miss the personal face-to-face connections. Other changes are coming to Safe Church as well, as the current director retires, and the search for a new one is well underway. In addition, we’re so excited about a new ministry priority for restorative practices, which can help deepen relationships, navigate conflict, and offer a process for responding to harm.
The mission of Safe Church is as important as ever. Please consider joining in our work to equip congregations in abuse awareness, prevention, and response, building communities where the value of each person is respected and protected.
We invite you to consider supporting us with a donation in any amount. And consider joining us in prayer for Safe Church.
