Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is one of the most effective tools to train pastors for effective pastoral care. Through a special grant, Rev Karl Van Harn, Director of CPE at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Michigan, is offering an innovative version of CPE to pastors and seminary students.

It is innovative in two senses:

  1. It is congregationally based—giving opportunity to use one’s ongoing ministry in a congregational context rather than solely through an assigned hospital.
  2. It makes maximal use of videoconference technology, with cohorts meeting mostly through videoconferences (making it possible to earn a unit of CPE while living in any community in North America)

The grant makes it possible for tuition to be just $600 per participant. There are two cohorts a year. The next cohort is now forming and will launch in October 2020.

Friends,

I had the privilege of participating in this program recently. I highly recommend this experience. Karl is an excellent teacher-facilitator and the video conferencing with your cohort is effective and meaningful. You will also have the opportunity to have in-person meetings with everyone to add to and enhance your learning. Feel free to message me if you have other questions.

Once again, this is well worth your time. As with all CPE experiences, what you learn about yourself will help you learn to pastor and counsel more effectively. It will benefit your ministry, your church, as well as yourself.
