Thank You

Last week my father in law, Willis Groenendyk, died. As his family we wept and we laughed. We remembered his life and gave thanks for his witness. One aspect of his life that fits with this space is that he was a churchman. He served his local congregation as an elder and on the steering committee of his winter congregation. 

He was from a generation that viewed delegation to classis as an honour to be embraced, not an obligation to be avoided. I really don’t know what he might think of the Network or of the movement to classical renewal. I suspect he’d be somewhat sceptical.

Nonetheless, I believe that as we work to renew structures and create ministries for our context we can learn something from his love for and dedication to the church of Jesus Christ and the Christian Reformed Church in particular. For that and so much more, I am grateful.
