Good Community Assessment Materials

Just a heads up on some very well thought out community assessment materials, designed both for established churches and also for new church plants. Compassion by Design has several products that are based around the concept of community asset and need mapping. I have "ReFocus: Aligning Ministry and Service with Critical Community Needs" by David Mills, but there are several other manuals, training CDs, and webcasts, including manuals about grant writing for nonprofits and the like. The manual I have includes literally dozens of options in terms of surveys, newspaper articles, and interview formats. A google search would turn up their website. For mobilizing the local church another good resource is by Heidi Unruh, "Toolkit for the Holistic Ministry Journey", available through Evangelicals for Social Action.
