Hi all,

I just read a couple posts by David Hayward (a.k.a. the Naked Pastor):

In these posts, David argues that you either need to see your church as a family OR a purpose group. Not both. Creating things like vision statements are not family-friendly. And while people pursuing a particular purpose may have family-like moments, it's best not to think of the members as family.

I usually think and speak of the particular church I'm serving as a family that has the desire ("goal?" "purpose?") to bless God and each other and our community. I wonder whether David would encourage me to focus more on one or the other for greater effectiveness.

I'm curious how others feel about their church communities and their purpose (or intentional lack thereof).

Peace,
Stan
