“Black & Reformed: Generational Journeys in the CRC” (February 2022 Race Relations Webinar)

In this panel discussion, we want to amplify and celebrate the voices of African American Pastors and leaders in the CRC. The title for this webinar is:

“Black & Reformed: Generational Journeys in the CRC”

We’ve invited two guest speakers to share their stories of growing and guiding congregations in the Christian Reformed denomination as leaders of color. They will trace their journey of navigating the culture of the CRC and provide generational perspectives on their experiences as a millennial and as a baby boomer.

About the Panel:

Rev. Kelsi Jones - Kelsi currently serves as a pastor in the Chicagoland area at Jacob's Well Church Community, and Grace Community Church. She was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI and graduated from Grand Valley State University with a degree in social work in 2014 before attending Calvin Theological Seminary in 2017 for her Master of Divinity degree.

Rev. Wayne Coleman - Pastor Wayne Coleman is the senior pastor at Madison Avenue CRC in Paterson, New Jersey. Before becoming the pastor at Madison Avenue CRC, Pastor Coleman was the senior pastor at Millbrook CRC in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The majority of Pastor Wayne’s time in ministry was spent in Holland, Michigan where he served for over twenty years as a church planter, and community leader for social justice and racial reconciliation. In 2004, Pastor Wayne and his wife Ruth were awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Award from the City of Holland. As a pastor he has over twenty years’ experience serving in the areas of missional outreach, and missional leadership development, social justice, youth ministry/education, racial reconciliation, church renewal/revitalization and urban ministry.

About the Moderator:

Rev. Reggie Smith - serves as the Director for the CRC Office of Diversity. He served as Director of the Offices of Race Relations and Social Justice from 2016 to 2020, and was pastor of Roosevelt Park CRC in Grand Rapids (Mich.) from 1994 to 2015.
