On Sunday January 17, 2021 the successful annual Grand Rapids (Mich.) city-wide Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Community Celebration took place.
The CRC Office of Race Relations co-sponsored this event that highlighted Dr. King's theoretical postulations and endeavors through expressive language of the arts and a powerful positive message. The evening culminated with keynote speaker Rev. Dr. Howard Earle, Senior Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church (Grand Rapids, Mich.). We celebrated on one accord with attendance that had boasted 900+ in previous years.
However, due to COVID-19, the event took place online via Facebook Live and YouTube. While the 2021 event was different, we believe it bore special significance because the challenges we all faced in 2020 and the powerful racial reckoning America experienced.
