This book of daily readings highlights stories of God’s work with the Old Testament saints (and their world) that are a part of the spiritual history of every Christian.

Here is the full description (as written on Amazon):

After a youthful search for meaning and fulfillment in hedonism, Augustine came to realize that he had been searching in the wrong places. As he put it, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” This book is about that search for rest—not Augustine’s but—the search of those who lived before Jesus came to earth to offer the “rest for your souls” that Augustine found. We know about some of these people and their pursuits from the Scriptures of the Old Testament. Many spent their lives avoiding or opposing God. But others refused to be content with the charms of a sin-damaged world, instead “longing for a better country—a heavenly one” (Heb. 11:16). Since Jesus, we have learned more about that better country and the satisfaction God provides for human restlessness. Even so, the stories of God’s work with the Old Testament saints and their world are part of the spiritual history of every Christian; they help us understand what God has wanted from the beginning and now gives to all who come to Christ for rest. May these daily readings be helpful in your service to Christ.
