Psalm 34:8 – The Goodness of God
"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him."
For one member, Psalm 34:8 holds a special place in their heart. Learning a song based on this verse as a child embedded the truth of God’s goodness deep within. Over the years, they’ve drawn strength from this verse, finding refuge and comfort in God through life’s challenges.
When were times in your childhood that you had to take refuge in God? How did those experiences shape your own faith today?
Psalm 46 – A Source of Strength and Hope
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
One of the first passages they memorized, Psalm 46 has become a source of strength for someone facing difficult times. These verses have brought reassurance since childhood, reminding them of God’s unwavering presence and power, particularly when life feels overwhelming.
What verses did you memorize as a kid that you still remember today? Why do you think they've stuck with you?
1 Corinthians 13:4 – The Way of Love
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."
This beloved passage on love was one of the first Bible passages a member memorized as a child. Later, it became the reading at their wedding, weaving love for others and the love of God into the fabric of their marriage and life.
Can you remember an experience that first showed you patient, kind, and humble love of God?
Psalm 125:1 – Secure in Trust
"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever."
Memorized in elementary school, Psalm 125:1 is inscribed in the front of a Bible gifted to one member in fifth grade. This verse helped them feel grounded in faith, secure in knowing that those who trust in the Lord stand firm, unshaken through life’s storms.
Did you ever receive a Bible verse as a gift? What did it teach you?
Romans 8:38-39 – The Inseparable Love of God
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
One member’s first memorized verse, Romans 8:38-39, was also a favorite of their grandfather. This verse reminds them of the steadfastness of God’s love, a love that is constant and enduring, no matter what life brings.
Did you family or friends help to guide your faith? In what ways did you learn from them?
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trusting in the Lord
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
A verse memorized in youth, Proverbs 3:5-6 has guided one member throughout life, especially during times of uncertainty. These words have served as a constant reminder to place their trust in God’s wisdom and guidance, resting assured that He is directing their path.
What are ways that you can more fully trust in God this week? What has trusting in God looked like in your life in the past, and what does it look like today?
