"If the church won’t help people figure out how to handle their personal finances, who will?" -Carey Nieuwhof
Your church may have recently received a book called “Money and Spirit: Surrendering Our Finances to the Work of the Holy Spirit” If you’ve not had a chance to flip through it yet, we hope you will. It’s formatted as a study book to go through with a small group or on your own.
Through the book, author Heather Day walks through what a stewardship journey looks like.
God has called up to be faithful with the resources that He has entrusted to us.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
“God sees our faith and finances as inseparable” - Randy Alcorn
Everything we are and everything we have is the Lord's. Our talents (skills/abilities), treasures (all our stuff), trees (created world), and time are all things that God has put in our care to nurture and steward in ways that lead to the flourishing and shalom of creation and all who live in it. To live stewardly is to ask the question, "how can my whole life show that Jesus is my Lord?"
Before you can get on the path toward healing, however, you must first wrestle with this most important question.
Are you ready to surrender to God's will for your money, or are you still determined to go your own way?
