I appreciate that you framed your post as "reflections" and not as a complaint, Rennie. You've given me, as an accessibility committee member, some good points to consider.

We used the "Let's Talk" course in our church. It is helpful for spreading awareness and stimulating discussion.  Hopefully, we can learn to treat everyone with compassion, especially our brothers and sisters who experience mental illness.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is another organization in the states that I have found helpful. They offer resources and networking online, Peer to Peer and Family to Family classes (for individuals struggling with mental illness or their family members), and often have local support groups. Does Canada have something comparable?

Thanks, Michele, for sharing this! As a disability advocate without (obvious) disability, I have a lot to learn! My father lives with bi-polar disorder and other loved ones have brain illnesses so I'm a member of NAMI which provides great resources and support.

For me, as a "newbie" disability advocate, this is an excellent foundational article to help think about how we relate to all persons within our church family. It warns of erroneous attitudes and gives ideas of positive application.  Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for putting this helpful list together!  I've already read some of these titles and look forward to reading more to educate myself as a disability advocate for our church.

Maybe she would like to color Bible story pictures to decorate a classroom/bulletin board OR give away. Can she design a bulletin cover? Or pass out bulletins?

Thanks, Jolene, for this inspiring article on "retirement'...an opportunity to celebrate God's blessings and find new ways to serve!

Is it possible that our easy acceptance of any/all types of contraceptives has contributed to a culture where preborn human life is less valued? This topic is worth thinking about and I look forward to the next installment.

As a disability advocate, I thank you for your leadership, Mark, to include those in our churches who are differently abled and to help us all serve better together!  You will be missed.

We want to hear from you.
