The question that Thrive and Synod 2026 need to address is whether they are not caught up in the same mindset as articulated in the business ideology of the 1980's and set out by the denominational leadership in "Vision 21" (1987) and "Gathering God's Growing Family" (1989). How is the new "Ten-year Strategic Plan for Church Planting in the CRCNA" anything more than another top down "church growth" business plan? When will leaders become shepherds?
Is the sole purpose of the local church - "evangelism"; or is it "to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, foster genuine fellowship, serve those in need, and be a witness to the world."
