Not to change directions so much,

but for a long time I've been wondering,

if the CRC would spend just a fraction of the time that we have spent studying and talking about the Belhar confession, on studying and talking about Isaiah and Amos, wouldn't we be further ahead on both issues of social justice and our awareness of Scripture?  I feel like this denomination places less and less emphasis on Scripture.  What happened to Sola Scriptura? What happened to our history of being people of the Book?  Is there really anything in the Belhar that both Isaiah and Amos have not said better?

I appreciate the thoughts of this post and the work of the faith formation committee,

but I wonder,

do any of you really believe Paul wrote Hebrews or that when a young person baptized and raised in the CRC marries a Baptist and joins their church and is rebaptized that their salvation is to be questioned, or that what the Catholic church does at Mass is Damnable, or that when a husband beats his wife it was ordained by God?  I could go on.  And yet, we ask every professing member, every new council member, every pastor, to say this is the teaching of the Word of God.  Why not rather be grateful for those in the past who helped bring us to the future, but acknowledge they did not get it ALL right.

We want to hear from you.
