Chaplain Prayers: On the Edge of Belief in Crisis

Mysterious One,

We didn’t know it could be like this for us,

Standing here on the edge unbelief.

What felt like such a sturdy faith now seems to crumble under the smallest weight.

Was my faith ever really real?

Everyone else seems so sure.

Were you even real, God?

Stand up and show yourself!

We are in crisis—

What was up now is down,

And what was whole is now is now in parts,

And the faith that was supposed to carry us through is faltering and frail.

In times like this

When we can’t very well hold on to you dear God,

Hold on to us.

As what is false crumbles under our feet,

Place us on the sturdy ground of your love.

For with you we have nothing, and everything.
