When a group of people, like a congregation, is up to its collective neck in alligators it can take a while before a good collective decision is made and even more time before there is enough collective will to proceed into the agreed-upon action. There are a lot of good and understandable reasons for this.

I think that coaching is an effective way for the congregation to converse and discern its way through:

1. discerning what's in the swamp, (good or bad? dangerous? useful? how many? how big? can we eat it?...)

2. decision processing, and

3. action.

Every congregation (and organization or team) can use a coach ... even when it's not in a swamp.
