As we step into the year 2025, we give thanks to God for His faithfulness and love. Each new year is a reminder of God’s ongoing work in our lives, His church, and His creation. The changing of the calendar offers us an opportunity to reflect on the past year and anticipate the blessings and challenges ahead.
In 2024, we experienced both joys and trials as individuals, church communities, and a denomination. All across North America, CRC churches gathered together for Gather, exploring the work that God is doing in our denomination. Churches supported food pantries and prison education programs. News of God's love spread in public schools and through unique bible studies, engaging everyone from young adults to people working in the music industry Campus ministry thrived across the USA and Canada. Across the globe, the CRCNA has supported vulnerable people in getting birth certificates and support sustainable and resilient food systems despite famines. Yet, within our denomination, many of us have also struggled with grief; with lost loved ones; with the struggles and pains of division, as we have lost beloved colleagues and friends. Across the globe, our brothers and sisters in Christ struggled with armed conflicts, political instability, hurricanes, flooding, and famines.
Through it all, God remained our refuge and strength. His Word guided us, His Spirit comforted us, and His grace sustained us. As we enter this new year, we are called to live with gratitude, courage, and hope, trusting that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
May 2025 be a year in which we, as the Christian Reformed Church in North America, recommit ourselves to loving God and our neighbors, spreading the good news of Christ, and seeking justice, mercy, and unity in a divided world. Together, let us embrace the opportunities God places before us, confident in His promise: “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).
Happy New Year, and may God bless us all!
