China Missionary Becomes Great Great Grandfather to China Orphan

Back in 1920 when Rev. John De Korne traveled to China as one of the first group of Christian Reformed missionaries to China, he could hardly have imagined that his great-granddaughter would travel there 90 years later to adopt a 13-year-old Chinese orphan. This remarkable story is told in a small, privately published booklet. The connecting link in the story, Carol Lenger, is granddaughter to De Korne and grandmother to Jian Feng Lee Bergeron. Lenger's father, who grew up as a missionary kid in China, passed on into glory recently. But Lenger heard plenty of stories from him and her grandparents about life and ministry in pre-war China. The family continued to have a deep love for the country and her people. Click here to read a longer article about this story.
As you think about how God's hand shaped this family's story, what can you share about how God has connected the links in your own faith journey?
