Listening Is a Skill We Need to Grow In. How Do We Listen Well?

Our church leaders are wanting to listen better to the needs of our people in the church community. We want to specifically focus on Spiritual Growth (where people have grown in the past, where God is at work in their lives now, how can the church give them more spaces to grow in their walk with Christ, etc.) Have any others done that sort of formal listening in the past? What are some things that you've done? What has worked? What hasn't? Where did you do the listening (small groups, congregational meetings, elder visits)? How did you follow up afterwards?

We haven't specifically done this, Scott. However, it seems to me that a lot of the principles and structure provided by "restorative justice" http://www.realjustice.org/, would possibly be really helpful for what you're talking about doing.
