What is your role at the CRCNA? How did you come to your position?
I'm Ben Van Arragon, the Pastor Wellbeing Consultant for Thrive. I came to this role after 20 years of congregational pastoral ministry preceded by formal training in both counseling and theology.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Because I'm new to my role, I'm spending a lot of time at the office consulting with colleagues, making contact with pastors, and learning as much as I can. Moving forward my time will be devoted to facilitating learning events and retreats, curating enrichment and training materials, and providing consultation and support for pastors.

What is one thing you've learned while working at the CRCNA?
That the Lord is working powerfully through so many people in so many places! Everyone I've encountered in denominational and local ministry is filled with the desire to serve faithfully. I'm constantly inspired.

What are you most passionate about in terms of serving and equipping congregations?

I love pastors and the vocation of pastoring. I'm passionate about kindling, and re-kindling, the joy of this calling in my fellow servants.

What is your favorite thing about your job? Any fun or engaging memories or experiences?
My favorite thing about this job is connecting with others who are so actively engaged in ministry. During my second week in this role I had the privilege of attending one of Thrive's "Gather" events. I spent extended quality time around a table with representatives of 5 regions who embody the diversity of the CRCNA. Each participant shared personal stories of the challenges and joys of life in Christian community. I came away with such hope for the church.
