Join us in welcoming Tamara Gurley to the Coffee Break/Discover Your Bible Team as the new Coffee Break Program Manager. Tamara began in position in June, replacing Sam Huizenga, who took a new position as the Director of Raise Up Global Ministries in March. Raise Up is the name for a group of ministries that support global leaders with training and materials. The group includes Timothy Leadership Training, Educational Care and Coffee Break/DYB.
Let’s hear from Tamara!
Q: Tamara, what interested you in the Coffee Break/DYB Program Manager Position?
A: In my role as a Women's Ministry Director, I had the privilege of introducing Bible discovery-style methods to the women of my church. It was such a rich experience that grew to reach hundreds of women each year. When I learned that Coffee Break was reaching men and women all around the globe in the same way, I was immediately interested in getting involved in this meaningful, Gospel-focused work.
Q: What would you like to learn about Coffee Break from new and experienced Coffee Break/Discover Your Bible leaders?
A: I am greatly looking forward to hearing more stories of how Coffee Break / DYB is impacting lives and how God is at work in groups around the globe. There are lots of details and processes that will be important for me to know, but there is nothing greater than hearing personal testimonies that speak to the reason we all share in this work together.
Q: What is your dream for Coffee Break/DYB?
A: I dream of continuing to see Coffee Break / DYB reach men and women around the world. I remember my first time utilizing inductive or discovery-style methods and it was like a key had been given to me that unlocked a richness of the Bible that I had never known before. I hope that as we shift and grow, DYB continues to find ways to bring this tool to more and more people in ways that move them closer to God and His Word.
Q: What is a typical day like in the life of Tamara?
A: I have 4 kids ages 2, 7, 8, and 16 so there is no typical day in my life! I love the crazy and the beautiful of this full life that God has gifted me and spend most of my days caring for the little hearts he has entrusted me with. Outside of being a mom, I am in seminary part-time at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary which takes up a great deal of my free time. I also love spending time outdoors enjoying God's creation and traveling wherever our camper or airline points will take us.
Q: What would you like us to pray for?
A: Please pray for me as I transition into this role. Pray that God would grant me the wisdom and discernment to share in this work in the ways He most desires.
