Most of us have seen many Christmases or maybe this is your first either by age or by when you found Jesus; whichever, we’re all the same in God’s eyes. Perhaps we can try something individual this year and make Christmas personal, personal as in I, me and mine. Giving is wonderful and shows love for others as we’ve been commanded to do. Howbeit, accepting God’s gift to us is both wonderful and personal – God gave His only son, Jesus Christ, for you.
Jesus Christ is my saviour, He’s yours too. He can certainly be considered as a personal matter. Jesus was born for each of us and for all His brothers and sisters over more than two millennia. But now think about yourself – He was born for you. The Son of God was born, served and continues to serve you, the relationship is personal for Him as well. Look into the manger and see God’s greatest gift to humanity and know that He is also our Father’s gift to you, personally. Even if you presently choose not to accept Him, Jesus will always be there, forgiving you and waiting for you to come home; remember the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).
Saviours are not forgotten. Consider the person who pulled you from the wreck just before it exploded, lifted you from the water when you’ve taken your last breath or another life-threatening situation where you could not help yourself; would you ever forget that person?
Jesus is your personal saviour, also a brother and a friend; He will stand by you, even in your worst moments. When a benefactor is also a friend, we tend to pay more attention. Hopefully your brother or sister is also your best friend and, just because you’d sometimes like to pitch your sibling off a pier, doesn’t mean you don’t love them. Siblings and best friend relationships can be up and down, but we don’t normally give up on either. It’s the same with Jesus; usually you pray to Him, thank Him or holler for help and other times He’s forgotten. But He doesn’t forget about you; all you have to do is remember Him, He will be there. This is one reason Paul tells us to pray always, about all things (Philippians 4:6) – prayer and listening keeps communication alive.
God has given you the greatest gift of all, His Son – how you use the life He’s given you is your gift to Him.
I hope an unconditionally good Merry Christmas! for you.
