In a time when many are afraid of the COVID-19 virus, Psalm 91 reminds us that times of fear are not new. The writer of Psalm 91 gave us his personal testimony. He stayed inside his Refuge when there was a deadly pestilence going on around him.

He also gave assurance to others (us) when he said, "He  will save you from the deadly pestilence. You will not fear the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side but it will not come near you. . . If you make the Most High your dwelling (home), then no harm will befall you. . . for He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."

"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him. .  . and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Staying inside our Refuge is our first line of defense against COVID-19. Our masks, hand washing, etc. are only our secondary line of defense. The secondary line of defense may not be effective without staying inside our Shelter. So let's all join the Psalmist of long ago and keep saying of the Lord, the Great Physician, "He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God, in whom I trust," because HE CAN CONTROL ANY VIRUS.

If I were a doctor, I would prescribe reading and meditating on Psalm 91 once a day for a week, all the while praising Jesus who came to heal and save.
