A Call to Action

Were you able to attend Inspire 2019 or follow any updates? In case you missed it, Calvin University Chaplain Pastor Mary Hulst issued a call to to action, encouraging churches to become "better places of belonging for young adults." She made a profound declaration that something needs to change. Amen to that. Read more about her talk via the CRC News story below. 

But change is not easy. I watch many people navigate this new world in a variety of ways, some invoke reckless abandon and others hold on to traditional ways. And I imagine congregational change looks no different for many of us.

The theme for SERVE this year was “Go Do Good” and the verse that goes along with this comes from Titus 2:11-14, which states: 

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”

Students came away from SERVE knowing that God is working in this complex and chaotic world in spite of what the evil one is doing. For grace has appeared for all people and it does teach us to say no to the pressures of this world. For we know that in the middle of the messes, and the need for change, God is right there, redeeming us, His children, and He calls us to go and do good in the world. This year, almost 1400 participants heard this, plus the communities they SERVEd in! 

I praise God for what He is inspiring our children, His children, to know. To be change and shine the light of a resurrected Jesus Christ in the world.
