Are you looking for a fresh idea for planning worship? Maybe you’re looking for a thoughtful, participatory worship service idea for a holiday or summer service, or perhaps you will be joining with other churches in your area and are looking for something unique and meaningful.

Consider a worship service of scripture and song that celebrates the “Whole Story of God, from Creation to New Creation”. Attached is a recent service that was held at Exeter CRC, in Exeter, ON. This was done in a hymn festival style, using many readings and songs from Lift Up Your Hearts. You could do the same, or adjust to use other songs and scriptures that fit your congregation and purpose. Thank you Pastor Kevin TeBrake and worship coordinator Michelle Zwart for sharing this service that they designed from several sources.

With a few adjustments, this can also be a meaningful thing to do for an Educational hour or adult class. I have been part of several of these, and those who attended were moved by the use of scripture and song to look at the big picture - from creation to our hope of new creation.

Since Lift Up Your Hearts came out in 2013, many churches have participated in a HymnFest — you can find many of their worship bulletins or programs here. This is not meant to be an advertisement for the hymnal. It can be adjusted for any musical source. But if you have the hymnal, this may give you some great ideas.
