Sound the Trumpet

"Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with the tambourine and dancing, praise him with the clash of cymbals..."—Psalm 150:3-5

Trumpets were used for different purposes throughout Bible history, but mainly as an instrument of praise to God. A trumpet will be used at the end of time (by the angel Gabriel?) to let the world know that Jesus is on his way back to earth in power, glory, and majesty—in contrast to his first coming (referenced in I Thessalonians 4:16). 

Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Does not all nature around me praise God? If I were silent, I would be an exception to the universe. Does not the thunder praise him as it rolls like drums in the march of the God of armies? Do not the mountains praise him when the woods on their summits wave in adoration? Does not the lightning write his name in letters of fire? Has not the whole universe a voice? And shall I, can I be silent?"

As the book of Psalms comes to its climax, every psalm is a psalm of praise! And should not our lives become increasingly a psalm of praise to the God who deserves more praise than we can ever give?

When people learn to play a musical instrument well and then stop using their talent, I tell them, "Read Psalm 150 and repent! Every talent and every instrument is needed to give God the praise that he deserves."

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! And as long as we breath, let us praise the Giver of every good and perfect gift.
