We are looking forward to the completion of an addition and remodel of our current building (expanded sanctuary, new A/V system, larger pulpit area, increased common and small group spaces and additional offices). Because this is the first addition in our church's 60-year history, we've never had to plan a service like this so we are looking for suggestions and ideas from those who have recently planned such a celebration! Any and all suggestions welcome!

Here is where we stand so far:

  • Hold our first services in the new space for a few weeks (think soft opening) while the finishing construction touches are completed.
  • Host a ribbon cutting and open house on a Saturday in which we invite local community leaders and anyone else to tour the new space (we have many curious neighbors who have been watching the expansion unfold)
  • Have a dedication service on a Sunday afternoon, in addition to a morning service, where pastors from our community and Classis as well as brothers and sisters from area churches can come and take part in the asking of God's blessing on our new space. Our choir is already working on a piece for this service as well as our Sunday School children.

Our Cornerstone committees (Worship, Evangelism, Fellowship & Education) are excited to begin planning.

Thank you in advance for your ever-willing contributions,

Sussex CRC Worship Coordinator - Karisa

Hi Karisa,

10 years ago in September we had a dedication service for our new building (old one burned down in 2003; we "wandered in the wilderness" for a few years before putting down roots again).  I can't figure out how to attach the service here ... some of it irrelevant to you, but perhaps you can glean some good ideas.  We did a really great drama to kick off the service... I don't know what it was called or where to find it.  I will keep looking if this is something that you think could be helpful.  It was fun, and it had a beautiful message.  If you send me your email address I can send you the service :-)
