Pilot Equivalency Certification by the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care

Certification with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) is now more attainable than ever with the Pilot Equivalency Certification, approved until June 2023! Below are the new clinical and academic requirements for the two varying levels of Certification for Spiritual Care Providers.
A. Clinical requirements for Pilot Equivalency Certification
Completed One (1) Advanced CASC/ACSS SPE Unit &
(CPE) a minimum of 4000 hours of spiritual care hours (SCP);
-1000 hours of those hours need to be after the Advanced Unit.
(PCE) a minimum of 2000 direct client contact hours (PST);
-Two hundred fifty hours of those hours need to be after the Advanced Unit.
OR
Completed Two (2) Basic CASC/ACSS SPE Units &
(CPE) a minimum of 8000 hours of spiritual care experience (SCP);
- One thousand hours need to be after the 2nd Basic Unit.
(PCE) a minimum of 4000 direct client contact hours (PST);
- Two hundred fifty of those hours need to be after the 2nd Basic Unit.
B. Academic Requirements for Interim Certification
2-year graduate/master’s degree in theology and/or spirituality/religion or a related clinical field from an educational institution. [accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)].
3-credit graduate course in Professional Ethics
The requirements for CASC certification are challenging to access without membership benefits. The cost to become an Associate Member (support CASC and receive membership benefits) is $285.00 (CAD). We’ve attached the information so that you can review it and determine if you want to embark on the journey to certification. We’ve also attached the documents to help you discern if pursuing certification is right for you.
CASC Full Certification Requirements
Requires all the application material and
completed or assessed as completed 2nd Advanced SPE Unit of training,
(CPE) a minimum of 1,000 hours of work experience, beyond Advanced units,
(PCE) a minimum of 250 hours of direct client contact hours beyond the Advanced unit.
