“Fund-raising is precisely the opposite of begging. When we seek to raise funds we are not saying ‘please could you help us out because lately it’s been hard.’ Rather, we are declaring ‘We have a vision that is amazing and exciting. We are inviting you to invest…’”
- The Spirituality of Fundraising Henri Nouwen
Asking for money is difficult. No one likes to seem like they have a hand out. But as churches shepherd their members, in other ways, we should also provide real clear ways people can make investments in the Kingdom through giving. Is there a vision or cause God has brought to your church?
A few years ago, a couple members of the CRCNA Advancement team sat down with a local minister- with an incredible ministry. He told us humbly about his ministry (an incredible and innovative ministry to a large unchurched population.) we asked how he supported the ministry- he sheepishly said “not well”. This local missionary was living on a slim budget because he was afraid to ask for money. What he didn’t realize was that he was keeping other people from being blessed by his ministry. By not allowing them to worship with their gifts.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on asking for support for a project or program in the comments below.

Fund-raising is a great way to share the work God is calling a person to do and inviting others into it. It's not an easy process, but so many people are thankful they can participate in the work of the Kingdom in that way.
For those who need to fund-raise, good training can help understand the process, help recognize the positives and negatives, teach the best ways to connect with and communicate with donors, and navigate the process well.
Agreed Jon! Allowing other people to be involved in our ministry is a blessing for all. Training can be a big help for those in ministry.
