What are some specifics on what the young families are looking for in worship and a church as a whole?

Comments

Great question, one that many churches are asking!

First, it is important to understand the demographics of your community and general church attendance trends . Barna is a great source of research, primarily for U.S. data. For example, this article: https://www.barna.com/research/church-attendance-2022/

For practical tips, there are lots of resources online. For example this article is helpful: https://www.illustratedministry.com/2018/more-young-families-to-church-on-sundays/

I would love to hear what others have experienced.

I can't speak for all young families, but can speak for my own young family.

a place where we know and are known (on a first-name basis)

a place where we can bring our broken selves and find hope

a place where we can worship in spirit and truth

a place where our hearts are set on Kingdom things

a place where ALL are fully welcomed and included (children, all abilities, all backgrounds)

My wife and I were looking for the following, and stayed when we found:

  • A church that proclaims God's word, that tells his good news, and speaks truth.
  • A church that is made of people that care for one another.
  • A body that acts together for the building of God's kingdom.
  • Music that glorifies his name, utilizes the talents He has given us, and encourages others.
  • A place for our children to witness God's goodness.
  • A body of believers that welcomes all to worship with them.
  • A place where its okay to be broken, incomplete, and insufficient.
  • People who emulate God's grace and understanding.
