Night Is Coming, When No One Can Work

"As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work." John 9:4

The Bible opens with a picture of God at work. From the creation of light to the creation of man and woman, God worked in an orderly way. He continues to work. Jesus said, "My Father is working until now, and I work." Jesus worked with his hands (as a carpenter?) until the time of his baptism. At that time, he began the greater work of atoning for the sins of the world and bringing new life, hope, and joy to the world.

Because night is coming when no one can work, what work must we do? Each of us has a God-given assignment to work for him in his vineyard. Our time to do good is short because death is coming. Yet, we are immortal until our work is finished. 

Many years ago, Rev. Jacob Eppinga (or was it Rev. Rolf Veenstra?) wrote a column in "The Banner" with the strange title, Sunergos, or was it, Soonergus? As he explained, that is a transliteration of the Greek word which means co-worker, helper, assistant, or companion in labor. He was quoting First Corintians 3:9 which says, "we are God's fellow workers." 

My joy is working alongside Sundara, Priya, JP, James, Chad, Dara, Jim, Jamie, Philip, Rebecca, Naomi, Joshua, Chris, Jonathon, Wanda, Jameson, and many others focused on providing nonreaders with Bibles they can hear, especially in places like the villages of India, Mexico, and the jungles of Africa. Little audio Bibles that fit in the palm of your hand go out in many languages from Audio Scripture Ministries in Holland, although many players go "naked" directly from Mega Voice, the manufacturer to India or Africa where they are "loaded" with Scripture in whatever language is needed. 

What an honor to work alongside the Great Workers, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
