2014 has come to an end ...
Though the days were busy, thoughts multiplied. One thing we all have in common: we are carried along on the river of time. Nothing stands still. So we have to make provisions. And so we think... we ponder. Who are we? How shall we live? Where are we going? How shall we relate? How shall we solve our problems? How shall we find the means to do it all? How shall we deal with this illness? What will the future bring?
“Mary pondered all these things in her heart...”
The evangelist Luke, in Chapter 2, tells us that Mary pondered on two occasions. First, when the shepherds visited her and Joseph and the Child in the inn, and the other when Jesus was twelve years old and had become separated from his parents around the Temple in Jerusalem.
The first pondering had to do with God's great acts of salvation, the second pondering had to do with her family.
So we may ponder as we consider the past and the future, both now connected with God's care and forgiving grace and, with Mary, reach out to her God and Father and ours.
