Flowers and the Season of Singing

"Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come." Song of Songs 2:12
Flowers! What joy they bring! There are many beautiful flowers. There are the petunias. Plain they are, but they seem to bloom all summer. Geraniums add brightness wherever they are. They too can produce new blooms all summer long. There are the shade-loving impatiens, the ground-hugging portulacas, the bright yellow and maroon marigolds, the colorful coleas, the red salvias, the tall zinnias, and many others. Yet, there is something about a rose that seems to make it the queen of the flowers.
Mr. Theodore Van Diggelen was a landscaper who lived in Des Plaines, Illinois. One time he was interviewed on radio and was asked, "Why do roses have thorns?" Theodore answered, "Anything as beautiful as a rose has a right to defend itself."
Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All his wonderful passion and purity.
O, Thou Spirit divine, all my nature refine
'Til the beauty of Jesus is seen in me.
